Tomkins
So, a few rumours in the morning papers that our favourite ex manager is planning a raid on West Ham to bring James Tomkins to Wearside.

So, assuming there is an element of truth to this what do we think is a realistic price?

English, good age, lots of experience, and Sunderland are desperate. £15m?

They are all different from each other,
some are more suited to some conditions and some opposition than others.

Sam should be told no deal

Re: Tomkins
I think Collins was better than Tomkins last season, but talent wise I think Reid is better than both.

"Although saying that Reid is better than Tomkins and I'm surprised anyone would say otherwise."

Depends on how you view it, Tomkins was the better player last season, Reid was pretty poor in large parts, however he was used as the left sided defender which Bilic identified as a major weakness thus we now has Ogbonna.

For me there's no real difference between Tomkins and Reid and I'm very happy to have both.

Re: Tomkins
Tomkins was better than Reid all of last season, so i guess that's why people would say otherwise.

Reid has been very good this season, but has played in his preferred position. Tomkins has also been good playing out of position as well.

Not much between them, I would have picked Tomkins ahead of him before the season started,

But obviously Reid is now in front of him as in possession and playing well.

Ha. Yes he did. I didn't read it properly. Sorry 'croe.

Although saying that Reid is better than Tomkins and I'm surprised anyone would say otherwise.

I don't care how much he is or isn't worth, I'd be gutted to see him turning out for that shite.

Didn't he say Reid wasn't seen as a starter and it was one of the two and Ogbonna?

'Ogbonna was £7 million and people saying he was better than Tomkins and should be worth more'

Couple of quick basic economic pointers

1/ Supply and demand dictate price
2/ Something is worth what someone will pay for it

A thirtsy man in the desert will pay a damn sight more for a first pint than a piss head on his eighth in Spoons

Clubs will be paying a kings ransom in January as a final throw of the dice to keep on the new tv deal

Either way James should not be sold, good solid and improving player

Yeah course you do.

After BANGING ON fucking endlessly saying why Bilic wanted Ogbonna so badly when I was saying he wasn't particularly needed, you now think he wasn't seen necessarily as a starter?

Hahaha

Yes I get that but I was referring to the posts saying if Ogbonna was £7 million and people saying he was better than Tomkins and should be worth more.

But as you say he's ahead of him because he's left footed and it doesn't make him better.

Ogbonna has done well enough and when the idiots are banging on on here about Tomkins being 3rd choice the reality is we have three excellent centre backs with little between them.

Of course the advantage Ogbonna has over Tomkins and Reid is Bilic went out and got Ogbonna because he likes to play with a left footed player on the left of the centre back pairing.

I personally think IF Tomkins wasn't the best choice to play right back at Arsenal it would have been a toss of a coin between who you pick to partner Ogbonna between Tomkins and Reid.

The chances of this are slim and none, and Slim's out of town. Sunderland have no money, hence why Advocaat left.

Re: Tomkins
What have people seen of Ogbonna to rate him better than Tomkins? He's only played a few games for us.

Where as Tomkins has been in excellent form for over a season.

We would be absolutely mad to sell any of our CBs... before you know it we will be getting Johnson in on an emergency loan again.... we have moved on and are not the same club of 18 months ago.

We need a different mindset.... onwards and upwards.

Ex-WHU employee stated on Twitter no truth to this , and also Tomkins didn't get on with BFS
